THE DESIGNER

ROOTS

For Syrian-born designer Rami Al Ali, his love of refined aesthetics began at an early age. His curiosity for fine fabrics and design led him to study Visual Arts at the College of Fine Arts in Damascus, Syria, where his true talent became apparent.

After astounding his professors with an unorthodox presentation of the core curriculum, Al Ali graduated in 1995 and quickly started his fashion career in Dubai and Beirut. It was in these two great cities that Al Ali worked with some of the region’s leading fashion houses.

ROOTS

RISE

Established in Dubai in 2001, Rami Al Ali Couture entered the fashion arena with bold creations and uncompromising couture designs. After a number of inspiring fashion shows around the Gulf, Al Ali’s popularity spread and his designs began to occupy the pages of leading fashion publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and Business of Fashion.

The excitement continued and garnered attention from global brands such as Swarovski, when Al Ali was selected to be part of Unbridaled, a book published by the Austrian crystal brand alongside revered couture veterans Giorgio Armani, Vivienne Westwood, and John Galliano, among others.

Later, the house collaborated with many notable creatives, including Spanish architect Carmelo Zappulla for Expo 2020 Dubai’s design and craft program, Lebanese jewelry designer Nadine Kanso, international high-street giant Charles & Keith, the private airline Royal Jet, and fine jewellery brands such as Bulgari, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Messika.

RISE

JOURNEY

Al Ali’s ultimate breakthrough came in 2009, when he was invited as a guest member of Alta Moda Alta Roma, showing his Spring–Summer Couture collection on the official couture week calendar. This further strengthened his relationships with the European fashion media, and his success was reaffirmed when The Middle East Magazine named him one of the top 50 most influential Arabs.

In January 2012, Al Ali debuted at Couture Fashion Week in Paris, showcasing his Spring–Summer 2012 collection. With a series of collections over the years, Al Ali has successfully built and maintained a brand that exhibits unique craftsmanship and a visionary approach to creativity.

In 2014, Rami Al Ali launched his ready-to-wear line, consisting of classic silhouettes and elegant lines that reflect a modern approach to luxurious eveningwear.

In 2020, the brand expanded once again with the launch of Rami Al Ali White — a new line of ready-to-wear bridal designs.

Today, Al Ali’s designs are synonymous with creative artistry and modern elegance, and are sought after by prominent socialites and international celebrities including Aishwarya Rai, Beyoncé, Chanel Iman, Eva Longoria, Googoosh, Helen Mirren, Nawal Al Kuwaitia, Isabeli Fontana, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Rowland, Kerry Washington, Mandy Capristo, Mona Kattan, Youssra, Leonnie Hanne, Naomi Campbell, Carrie Underwood, Rym Saidi, Passant Shawky, and Julianne Moore, among others.

JOURNEY

VISION

Through his success, Rami Al Ali goes beyond fashion to support his lifelong passion and brand DNA dedicated to art and empowering women. Since 2017, Al Ali has honored his commitment to the next generation of young couturiers through his mentoring program at the prestigious ESMOD Fashion Institute in Dubai, providing undergraduates the opportunity to develop their own capsule collection through an internship at the Rami Al Ali atelier.

In 2019, the designer took part in the non-profit Atassi Foundation exhibition in Dubai, which aimed to shed light on the early beginnings of the women’s art movement in Syria, emphasizing the immense role female artists played in shaping the nation’s art scene. One year later, Rami Al Ali launched Ard Dyar, a concept and community created to encourage open conversations with well-established Syrian figures and support emerging Syrian talent around the world.

Al Ali is also collaborating with the Dubai Design & Fashion Council (DDFC) as a mentor to help elevate local and regional talent in the emirate and support the development of a sustainable fashion industry. His influential position in the global fashion realm was recently reinforced by a significant nomination for The BoF 500 – Class of 2023, distinguishing him as the first Syrian designer to attain this prestigious recognition.

In June 2025, Rami Al Ali was invited to present his Couture collection in Paris, as part of the official Haute Couture fashion show schedule of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode. This invitation marks a significant chapter, as Rami Al Ali becomes the first Syrian designer to be welcomed onto the official Haute Couture calendar — a recognition that honors the refinement of his vision and the growing influence of his work on the global stage.
